Hi, I'm Colleen Reilly — welcome to Chic Style Daily. Before we get into what this site covers, I want to tell you what it isn't: it isn't a mood board. Plenty of beautiful hair and home inspiration exists on the internet already. What I've tried to build here is something a little more honest — a place where the pretty picture comes with the actual cost, the actual upkeep, and the actual time it takes to live with a look, not just take a photo of it.
I've spent fourteen years behind a colour chair in Providence, Rhode Island, doing about twenty colour clients a week. Somewhere around year eight, I noticed a pattern that bothered me: clients would come in with a screenshot, fall in love with a colour or cut, get it done, and then quietly abandon it two or three months later. Not because it looked bad. Because nobody had told them what it actually took to keep it looking like the photo. That gap — between what's shown and what's involved — is the reason Chic Style Daily exists. I write about hairstyles, hair colour, haircuts, outfits, nails and the occasional home project the same way I talk to someone sitting in my chair: warmly, but straight.
This site covers a wide lane — hairstyle and hair colour ideas, haircuts for different textures and face shapes, outfit inspiration, nail trends, and yes, home decor pieces like our Ikea hack roundups, because a well-styled life isn't just about hair and clothes. Across all of it, I try to include the details most sites skip:
My own hair is basically the longest-running test case on this site. It's natural red, it's curly, and thanks to being a colourist who experiments on herself, it's probably the most over-processed head in my own client book. I've bleached it, gone copper, grown out mistakes I made on purpose just to document them. If I recommend something, there's a decent chance I've lived with the aftermath.
Inspiring without being impractical is the whole balancing act. A piece can be gorgeous and still be the wrong recommendation if it ignores your budget, your schedule, or your hair type. So every article aims to be useful first and beautiful second — though we do try hard for both. If you want the specifics of how we research, fact-check, and decide what makes it onto the site, that's all laid out in our Editorial Policy, and it's worth a read if you care about where your advice is coming from.
We're also upfront about how the site supports itself. Some links on Chic Style Daily are affiliate links, and some posts involve products or brands we've been sent — none of that changes what we recommend, but we think you deserve to know it either way, which is why it's spelled out in our Disclosure page.
It's me, day to day, along with a small circle of contributors who share the same philosophy: no filler, no pretending a look is low-maintenance when it isn't. When I'm not writing or colouring hair, I'm usually in the top-floor apartment of a converted three-decker with my partner Marco, who has an unreasonably good eye for lighting, and our elderly cat Pesto, who tolerates most things except the hairdryer. Fourteen years in, I still work behind the chair every week — because the day I stop, this site starts writing about hair from two years ago, and that's not the kind of advice I want to give you.
We take how we handle your information seriously — you can read the full details in our Privacy Policy. And if something on the site doesn't sit right, or you just want to say hello, tell us what worked on your hair, or pitch a collaboration, we genuinely want to hear it.
Whether you have a question about a specific style, feedback on a post, or you're a brand interested in working together, reach out any time through our Contact page, or email us directly at [email protected]. I read what comes in, and I answer it myself more often than not — that's still the part of this job I like best.
